OUR TURF INSTALLATION PROCESS.
We remove existing growth, weeds, and stones. We assess the soil drainage and structure before moving forward.
The soil is rotavated, compacted lightly, and levelled. We spread a fresh layer of premium rootzone topsoil to provide essential nutrients.
Turf rolls are laid with staggered joints to avoid visible seams, fitted tightly around flower beds, borders, and patios.
Rolling & Initial Aftercare Setup: We gently roll the lawn to ensure complete contact between the roots and soil, then water it thoroughly and provide you with a simple watering and mowing schedule.
LAWN CARE & AFTERCARE ADVICE
Key Rule for New Turf: Water your new lawn thoroughly twice a day during the first two weeks (early morning and late evening), ensuring the water penetrates through to the soil underneath. Avoid walking on the grass until the roots have firmly bound to the ground and keep pets off during this period (typically 2 to 3 weeks). Mow high on the first cut once the grass reaches three inches tall. Set your mower blades to the highest setting so you only trim the top, protecting delicate new roots from stress.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
How long does it take to lay a new lawn?
Most standard residential lawn projects (up to 100m²) are completed within 1 to 2 days. This includes stripping the old lawn, ground preparation, topsoil levelling, and laying the new turf. Larger properties or sites requiring extensive clearance may take slightly longer.
What is the best time of year to lay turf?
Turf can technically be laid year-round, provided the ground isn’t frozen or waterlogged. However, autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the optimal seasons. During these months, milder temperatures and regular rainfall help roots establish quickly, with less manual watering required.
How long before I can walk on my new turf?
We recommend keeping off your new lawn completely for the first 10 to 14 days. After two weeks, you can walk lightly on it, but avoid heavy foot traffic, children playing, or pets running on the grass for at least 3 weeks until the root system has securely anchored into the topsoil.
When should I mow my new lawn for the first time?
You can carry out your first trim once the grass blades reach approximately 50mm (2 inches) in height—usually around 2 to 3 weeks after laying. Set your lawnmower to its highest setting for the first few cuts, removing only the top third of the blade to avoid stressing the grass.
Do you import fresh topsoil, or do you use my existing garden soil?
We evaluate your soil during our free site survey. Basingstoke soils can range from heavy clay to shallow chalk. To guarantee the best start for your turf, we almost always rotavate your ground and apply a fresh 25 mm to 50 mm layer of premium, weed-free British topsoil/rootzone blend.
Do you remove and dispose of the old lawn and green waste?
Yes, we provide full waste clearance. All stripped turf, weeds, and old garden waste are removed from your property and responsibly recycled at local green waste facilities across Hampshire.
